Missing one tooth, or a few in a row? An implant crown or implant bridge fills the gap without grinding down the healthy teeth beside it.

Single Tooth Implant Howell – implant crown replacing a missing tooth at Riverpark Dental of Howell

What a single tooth implant is made of

A single tooth implant has three parts. The implant is a titanium post set into the jawbone, acting as a new root. The abutment is a small connector that rises just above the gum. The crown is the visible tooth, shaped and shaded to match the teeth beside it.

Once the bone has bonded to the implant, the tooth is anchored the way a natural one is. You brush and floss it like your other teeth, and there's nothing to remove at night.

Implant vs. traditional bridge for one missing tooth

The traditional alternative is a three-unit bridge: the teeth on either side of the gap are filed down and crowned, and a false tooth hangs between them. It works, but it puts two healthy teeth to work for the missing one, and it's harder to floss under.

An implant leaves the neighbors untouched, and because it sits in the bone, it helps keep that part of the jaw from shrinking after the tooth is gone. A bridge can still be a good choice when the neighboring teeth already need crowns, or when an implant isn't possible, and we'll lay out both options honestly.

Implant bridges for several missing teeth

You don't need one implant per tooth when several are missing side by side. An implant-supported bridge typically uses two implants at either end of the space to hold a bridge that replaces three teeth.

This approach uses fewer implants than replacing each tooth individually, involves no natural teeth, and gives you a fixed row of teeth that you chew on normally. For a full arch, see our dental implant options, including All-on-4.

Getting a Single Tooth Implant Howell: step by step

Here's how treatment usually unfolds at our office on US-9:

  • Consultation — exam, digital X-rays to check the bone, and a 3D scan of your teeth and bite to plan where the implant and crown will sit.
  • Bone grafting if needed — if the bone has thinned, we rebuild it with a bone graft in our own office.
  • Placement — the implant is placed under local anesthesia; sedation options are available if you're nervous.
  • Healing — over a few months, the bone fuses with the implant. In some cases a temporary crown can be placed; your dentist decides based on how stable the implant is.
  • Abutment and final crown — the connector is attached and your custom crown is fitted and adjusted to your bite.

Who will treat you

Dr. Abraham Y Husney holds a Diplomat Certificate of Completion from a Dental Implant Surgical Seminar, and his training covers complex extractions and implant surgery. If a failing tooth needs to come out first, the extraction, any grafting, the implant and the crown can all be done here by the same team.

Cost, financing and recovery

Your fee depends on whether grafting is needed, how many implants are involved and the type of crown or bridge. We give you a written, itemized estimate after your consultation; our implant cost page explains what drives the price. Some insurance plans cover part of the treatment, and in-house and third-party financing is available.

Most people return to normal routines within a day or two of placement. Expect some tenderness and minor bleeding at first, and call us if bleeding is heavy or pain gets worse instead of better. Book a consultation online or call (732) 751-4028.

Single Tooth Implant Howell: frequently asked questions

Single Tooth Implant Howell: how long does an implant last?

With good home care and regular checkups, implants can last 20 years or more. The crown may eventually need replacing from normal wear, but the implant itself is meant to stay in place long term.

Do I need an implant for every missing tooth?

Not always. Each single gap is usually replaced with its own implant, but when three or more teeth are missing in a row, two implants can often support a bridge for the whole space.

Will an implant feel like a real tooth?

Most patients say it does. It's anchored in bone, so it doesn't move when you chew, and the crown is shaped and colored to match your other teeth.

Can implants fail?

It's uncommon, but it can happen. Smoking, poor oral hygiene and some health conditions raise the risk. Brushing, flossing and keeping your regular cleanings do the most to protect your implant.

What happens to the gap while my implant heals?

The implant usually needs a few months to bond with the bone before the final crown goes on. Before treatment starts, we'll go over how to cover the gap in the meantime so you know what to expect.

How much time off work do I need?

Many people go back to work the next day after a single implant. If you also have an extraction or bone graft, plan for a day or two of rest. Your dentist will give you a personal recommendation.

“I recently discovered Riverpark Dental and I'm really pleased with the experience. I went twice, one for cleaning with the most knowledgeable and friendly hygienist. The second time I got a great dentist to do some work on three of my teeth and the work was impeccable. Every single interaction from the receptionist to the aftercare was the best I had in long time. Highly recommended.”
