How a dental implant replaces a tooth
An implant is a small titanium post placed in the jawbone where a tooth root used to be. Over the next few months, the bone grows tightly against its surface — a process called osseointegration — so the post becomes as stable as a natural root.
Once it has healed, a connector called an abutment is attached, and a custom crown, bridge or denture is fixed on top. Because the implant is anchored in bone, it doesn't rely on neighboring teeth for support and doesn't move when you bite.
Why implants instead of a bridge or a regular denture
When a tooth is lost, the bone that held it gradually shrinks because nothing is stimulating it. Implants are the only tooth replacement that sits in the bone, which helps preserve it and the shape of your face.
A traditional bridge needs the healthy teeth on either side to be filed down for crowns. A regular denture rests on the gums and can slip, rub and limit what you eat. Implants avoid both trade-offs:
- Chew firm foods and speak without worrying about movement
- Look and feel like natural teeth, matched to your smile
- Leave healthy neighboring teeth untouched
- No adhesives, and nothing to soak overnight for fixed options
- Can last 20+ years with good home care and regular checkups

Dental Implants Howell options for one tooth or a full arch
The right design depends on how many teeth are missing and the condition of your bone. These are the four main options we offer:
- Single-tooth implant — one implant and one crown replace one missing tooth. Single implants and implant bridges.
- Implant-supported bridge — two implants carry a bridge that replaces three or more teeth in a row, without involving natural teeth.
- Snap-in implant dentures — a removable denture clips onto implants so it stays put while you eat and talk. How snap-in dentures work.
- All-on-4 full arch — four to six implants support a fixed set of teeth that you don't take out. Temporary teeth are attached while the implants heal, and your final teeth are crafted in zirconia, which is stronger than standard acrylic denture teeth and resists staining.
Your implant process, step by step
1. Consultation and 3D planning. We examine your mouth, check bone height and width on digital X-rays, and take a 3D scan of your teeth. You'll see where the implant would go and why.
2. Bone grafting, if needed. If the jaw has thinned after a tooth loss, we rebuild it with a bone graft in our own office, so you aren't sent elsewhere.
3. Implant placement. Under local anesthesia, with sedation options available, the implant is placed. Most patients describe mild soreness for a few days, managed with over-the-counter pain relievers.
4. Healing. Osseointegration usually takes a few months. A temporary tooth or denture can often be worn in the meantime.
5. Final teeth. The abutment and your custom crown, bridge or denture are attached and adjusted until your bite feels natural.

Who places your implants
Dr. Abraham Y Husney earned his DMD at Rutgers School of Dental Medicine and holds a Diplomat Certificate of Completion from a Dental Implant Surgical Seminar. His clinical skills range from direct restorations to complex extractions, and bone grafting is done in-house, which means the extraction, the graft, the implant and the final teeth can all be handled by the same team in the same building.
That continuity matters: the dentist placing the implant is planning for the tooth that will sit on top of it, not handing off to someone else halfway through.
Cost, insurance and financing
Implant fees depend on the number of implants, whether grafting is needed and the type of restoration, so we give you a written, itemized estimate after your consultation rather than a guess. Our implant cost guide explains each factor.
Some dental plans cover parts of implant treatment, and our coordinators check your benefits in advance. In-house and third-party financing can spread the cost into monthly payments. To find out if you're a candidate, book a consultation online or call (732) 751-4028 — we're open every Sunday.
